lyrics&tune: Moyshe Nadir I've always felt, that the song asks for more stanzas, but though the title can be found on many, many albums of singers, the lyrics of these two stanzas are only in my old Yiddish Songbook, a gift from Chana Fairstein-Bloch 40 years ago.

On Dec.14 I discovered a site with Yiddish songs in English transcription. The Elimelech song there has two more stanzas: 1. I wasn't present at this "graduation" party in kindergarden.
How beautiful she is on the photos which her mother sent!

I've seen Julie often: Mika truly grasped her - predominant - facial expression!

Efrat fetches us with the car. On the short way home Mika almost falls asleep.

June 30, 2011, Thursday

Immanuel at 5:45 in the morning. Soon a taxi will take him to the studio of "MasterChef", for 20 continuous hours.

Efrat checks, if Immanuel still has fever

"For Abba M a s t e r c h e f , from Mika" While Immanuel , now in the elected team of 14 potential master-chefs , copes with his sickness for 20 hours in the studio, and the next morning tells us, that he now is in a team of 13, we girls, Efrat, I, Mika and Tzilla, the neighbor, watch the first show on TV, one of four "auditions", in which- from 10000 applicants- at first 56 are chosen, and then 14. Roshfeld, one of the 4 judges said: "may each have his own sound!"

The next morning: Mika - while photographing - sticks a straw grass-hopper into the hair of Abba - who, a potential "Masterchef"  "with his own sound"  - tells his story:
"This time the assignment was to put MYSELF on the plate. I think I'm really in contact with my feelings, but the woman-judge said: "You did not excite me"!"

 

Back to Thursday morning, June 30, 2011, after the taxi fetched Immanuel at 6 AM.

At 8:15, Mother and Grandma accompany Mika to kindergarden for the very last time.
(There are summer-activities, partly even at the same place, but they are not "official").

I recall a painting - created perhaps 300 years ago - where a little girl opens the door and looks outside, while the mother sits inside and does some stitching.
I let this painting remind me, that there will come a time, when I'll have to let my children open the door and not only look outside, but go outside - elsewhere.

Segalit, the kindergardener, hugs Efrat and compliments her: "Such a good woman, such a good mother, a mother who cares (perhaps too much ....) such a sensitive human being!" At the same time Mika is crying (about what?), and Imma comforts her.

A moment later Mika sits like a queen on a table, her friends around her, and the symbols of Israel behind her: the Menorah, Herzl, President Peres

Mika explains:
"God loves the little colors which play with each other.
Above each of the paired color children there is a parent,
and the one in the center is the king.
It's allowed to imagine things that are not real. Right?
That's why the sun wears sun-glasses!"
