Introduction to Bat-Adam's 2007 Game:
one song for each of this year's 365 days
The sounds of two four year old grandchildren
in 2002
In my childhood and youth the means
of transport were legs, trams & trains.
But if I found myself in a car or a bus, I became so nauseated I wanted to
die.
I gratefully discovered, that if I sang , I felt better.
In my childhood and youth there was not much to feel happy about,
but my widowed, strained, despaired mother encouraged us to sing.
Christmas
songs were the most elating,
and sometimes it happened in a dictated singing-together,
that instead of scolding there was harmony and sheer joy.
I remember one such happy situation:
We were singing Mendelssohn's :
Hebe
deine Augen auf, Lift
thine eyes to the mountains,
from the Oratorium
Elijah,
a trio without instruments, for us three women:
Ursel, my sister [1939-2004], sang the soprano,
I, [born 1938], the second soprano
and my mother [1909-1985] the alto.
[Now my opportunity to sing this text is only
a little, but very moving Hebrew
tune]
I also remember the first Hebrew song/dance, I was taught
It seems significant today, that it was this song and no other:
ush'avtem mayim be-sason,
You will draw water with joy from the springs of freedom
In my home in Israel, too, the most beautiful hours were those, in which we
sang.
I was always sad, that I couldn't play the guitar because of my two disabled
fingers,
- an electricity accident at the organ in church , where I practiced at the
age of 15.
I encouraged my eldest son, Immanuel,
to learn it and to accompany our singing.

Immanuel 1993 -age 30 - in "Succah in the Desert"
On Pesach-Eve this year - 2007_04_02 - Immanuel suggested,
that we should have a singing evening instead of the usual Seder.
And though our Seders were never boring rituals and irrelevant texts,
this year's singing in between and after the meal was exhilarating.

At
the beginning of the year 2007 I decided to dedicate one cherished song to each day, a song, either created by myself or by others. Planning how I would start this fourth aspect of InteGRATion into GRATeFULLness I realized for the first time, that among my own, about one hundred, songs only two are sculpted in English, but that these two truly complement each other |

The 365 song pages have come into
being,
but they will never be completed.
Songs, which haven't found a place in it,
or new songs, I'm going to learn or to create,
will be added to existing pages,
according to a similarity in theme.
Also - images and texts, from past or present - may be inserted,
whenever they pop up as an associaton or as a memory,
BY CHANCE !!! -
without planning or systematic work.
There also might emerge an index of contents over time.
I feel deep satisfaction!
My already rich life was further enriched
not only by the multitude of songs,
each of which immerses me in a world of its own,
but also by the accidental sequences of accidentally chosen songs.
A challenge for my thinking and learning and creating!
Most beneficial was the urge to better remember or relearn many of the songs.
How do I accomplish this?
I record the songs-to-be-learnt on my cell-phone and rehearse line after line,
while walking
to the pool - twice a day, whenever I am in Arad and not Shoham,
and twice to and fro = each time 10 minutes = every day 40 minutes learning,
And I sing, while I swim and swing and swirl in the water and thus "rehearse".
It's extremely difficult for me to master a new tune,
even tunes, I myself was inspired with,
and the lyrics - I keep forgetting them...
But the learning itself is fun, not only the knowing!
