Why the name "Manuel"?
When after the birth of our son I wrote to his father in Israel, that his name was "Immanuel", he suggested to call him "Maeni". I hated the shortening in general, and this name in particular, since in Germany at that time often little boys were called like that by strangers, it means" little man". But it was only many years later, that I dared to suggest to call my son at least "Manuel", since "Immanuel" by that time seemed to be
too bombastic,, unutterably, inexpressable.
