Now it's Immanuel's turn to interview Avi and his family for "Who are you, Masterchef?"


"My mother is the source of my inspiration"

Roshfeld:
"Avi is the greatest star of this season.
One could think,
that the issue is another touching story.
Yet Avi presented a food-culture,
which is clear, exact and very warm..."
Eyal:
"He has a cooking-ability, which contains
forgiveness, repentence, love, warmth"

Avi during his audition:
"I'm called Avi, I'm 35, from Jerusalem,
I learnt hotelkeeping, but life took me elsewhere
to prison because of all kinds of offenses,
which resulted from addiction,
the sickness of the addiction to drugs."

A clip is shown - with Avi in a group of men, who free themselves from drugs

"I fell into drugs"

"You are loved, Avi"

"My name is Avi, and I am addicted"

"I decided,
that I needed treatment"

"When it already reached family
and child and wife"

"And when I was about to loose many things,
which were very precious to me.."
"I went to a rehab.....
The truth is, that every time I come to this place now, I feel excited"
Avi during his audition:
"It's 18 months now,
that I'm clean
I'm a clean addicted"

"I'm married,
father of a son of 8
and my wife is about to deliver every moment"

Michal about his audition dish:
"You have talent, you have some-thing that can be worked with.
Eyal:
"there are moments that change the way of a life. I've the feeling that this is such a moment for you and I wish you all the best
in the world."

"This is a temple for me,
"Here I learnt slowly that there is life,
that there is another option to live, and to stay clean
and to take care of yourself and also to enjoy life "

"Powerlessness" --- "you are loved" --- "You are not alone"

Immanuel about Avi before meeting him in his parents' house
"Many people moved me in this program in "Masterchef", but Avi touched me in a very deep place, a very special place.
And now I'm happy, that he invited me to the house of his parents in Jerusalem."
"Listen, Avi, you know: to come here now and talk to you in the house of your parents, you can't guess what excitement this is for me, really!"
Immanuel: "why here?" [i.e. not in the house of your wife and son]
Avi:
"I've many mixed memories connected to the time when I used drugs.
My past that is not something I can put aside, throw out...
...I feel safe here...
Immanuel: "Why!?"
Avi:
"The relationship with the family today is different, it is real,..
I can say that all relationships with father, mother, siblings
are my tikkun" [correction in a deep sense].
"My feeling here is so good, I feel so well here,
I didn't think that this would happen to me"
Michal's words about Avi are inserted here:
"Avi didn't open up from the beginning,
but suddenly we saw a different Avi,
more confident in himself.
 [The clip from the Blind Choosing of Ingredients is shown,
in which Avi experienced his trust in the blind guide.]

Eyal:
"Avi, when he is quiet within himself,
and he can contain all of himself,
and then in two-three steps things come out of him
which are absolute and wondrous."

Avi to the blind guide:
"You let me rely on you in a way...
And I, I can't express,
how much I thank you."
Roshfeld:
"Avi is the best cook here
with regard to what we call " a hand".
Eyal:
"Avi knows something big about life."
Immanuel in the interview:
"When did you become entangled?"
Avi:
"At the age of a little less than 15 , at school....
We were a small band and the drugs arrived."
Immanuel: "Somebody proposed?
How do you start with drugs?"
Avi: "The problem is a way of life, it is how to live life.
The choice is yours.... it's what you choose to do"
"And in the moment in which I choose the negative path,

"That is the stage, when I went to rehab.
It's impossible to become clean of drugs,
"the drugs arrived quickly.
For me it was an escape that suited me-
to a place that caused me not to think
about what I didn't want to think about.
Not to feel what I didn't want to feel"
Immanuel:
"Did it help?"
Avi:
"Yes this helped with regard to not feeling.
It didn't help me at all in life.
It didn't bring me any advancement.
Immanuel: "But you did want to escape!"
Avi: "Exactly...
..... Drugs are the worst thing in the world"
Immanuel:
"Tell me, was there a stage
when you said to yourself : 'I'm addicted'?"
Avi:
?"if you don't admit, that you are addicted.
That's exactly the point,
when all the family collected, my wife, all,...
Immanuel:
When Ilanit got to know you,
you were already addicted?
Avi:
Listen, Ilanit is an amazing woman, really.
She believed in me, that one day I'll get out of this.
She chose to see the good part
instead of concentrating on all the negative.
and there was negativity.
As if to really see
the little that was there, that was good.
"She saw, that there was good in me
and that one day.....
She only thought that this would happen fast.
And then there was a married life and a child ..
Immanuel:
"Did you enter prison after you got married?"
Avi: "I entered prison after we got married,
after already Adir was born."
Immanuel: "She walks behind you..."
Avi: "An amazing woman".
I'll never forget in my life , what she did for me......."
Immanuel: "Do you think , that you won?"
Avi: "I reached a place in my life,
that I enjoy to live, I have fun. "
"I enjoy seeing my kids in the morning,
I have the deepest feeling for them,
the wife, the house, the family
.... Yes, at that point, in this situation
I think, I did win."

At this point the scene from the Perfect-Sandwich Program is shown, in which Avi says:

"Avi is the most loyal to his own food..
He does not try to please... "

"Avi has high abilities in his hands...."
"You never tasted this, right? come, taste it!"
Avi:
It's not enough to make something simple.
There must be creativity.
This dish they used to make in Algeria.,
as my parents once told me.

 "I reached a stage with myself,
where I understand
that I have to develop myself
and to dare more
to try to do new things,
to try to do other things,
to try to do attractive things.
In every program I was afraid.

"In that program I said to myself:
if you go on being afraid when cooking,
you'll not profit anything from this program,
and you will also soon be dismissed from it.

Michal: "You had the courage ..... Of course, you are the one who excelled today! You are invited to the veranda!"

Immanuel: "How much did I hear about you!"
"When he talks about you, it's like a prayer..."
Adir, Avi's son: "It's not only in class, but in the entire school, that they talk about him, but I tell you.
For me if he wins or if he doesn't he's worth a million dollars for me and there is no other besides him."

Parents often think that they are here to guide the little ones.
When - in reality - the little ones come forth with clarity to guide you.

"Did you see all the programs?" "Of course" "What is Abba's dish, of which you are most proud?"

Adir: "All of Abba's dishes are wonderful"


"but if I must choose one,
then it's the "surprise-croquettes".
Immanuel:
"But those are hot!"
"They are hot, but Moroccans like hot,
and I, though I'm not Moroccan, I like hot!
Avi:
"Sure are you Moroccan!"


[Adir probably thinks, that he is Israeli,
and rightly so!]
The first program of the team (after 5 programs with auditions) was "Self-Portrait".
It was there, that Avi made his "Surprise-Croquettes".
Michal: "Avi puts all his feelings into his food" .
During that program she highly praises him and Avi says, that there are no words to express his excitement
that all his life he wanted to do, what he now does at the age of 35, and that this is the greatest experience of his life.
Michal: "We are glad, that we are part of this experience and I particularly am glad, that you are here."
Chaim: "This food expresses everything you want in life,
and I in this moment, am so touched, that I ask everyone to clap their hands for you."

Immanuel to Adir: "It seems to me, that you are very proud of your Abba"

Continuation of the sequence "Mika with Oree, Avi's baby-son".
We celebrated the Eve of Shabbat, which was the Eve of the Finale, together: the three finalists and their families
at the hotel in Neve-Ilan, where the traditionally-minded families of Elihav and Avi stayed for Shabbat,
since in order to reach the Finale - in the Mako-studios at Neve-Ilan - in time, they would have had to travel on Shabbat.

 

 

Immanuel and Avi's father



Adir drums on a garbage bin,
Immanuel laughs,
but why is Elihav so serious
as I never saw him before?
And who exactly is this girl,
with whom he walked hugged,
but who is not his girlfriend?
Nobody knows
about any romantic
relationship in Elihav's life.
Isn't this strange,
when three people
are such good friends,
like Immanuel, Elihav and Avi?

 

Efrat tonight
reminds me of a traditional Moroccan lady,
and, indeed, "Moroccans"
are definitely the majority among us!

 

Adir and Mika finally find each other!
When playing football
proved to be a bit difficult for Mika,
Grandma assists her....
