Haenschen Klein and Hebrew Children Songs

2011-09-11 and again 2013-04-03:
not one of the sound-buttons on this page works and the entire sound-folder seems to have disappeared.
Perhaps this is alright, first - because Mika no longer sings these songs and no other small child is in sight, that would sing them.
And nowadays - unlike in 2007 - every song can be found on the Internet.
Second - because the free space invites the continuation of the sequence of accidental images from Masterchef, program 18.

2007_11_09

I use to say that I was born 3 months before the "Kristall-Nacht", the "Crystal Night".
This pogrom against German Jews on November 9, 1938, was only the "beginning"....
My idea this year - to commemorate this day - is to delight in Hebrew children songs.
Sixteen Songs for children who were not supposed to live...

This song about "falling autumn-leaves" was moved to another page with childrens' songs

2 weeks ago, when I accompanied Mika to Hanni,
to the sound&movement group,
I was taken by a song on a disc which Hanni used
and quickly recorded the second stanza on my cell-phone.
I learnt the lyrics and with incredible effort also learnt the tune .
May the authors (who?) forgive me some small adaptations.

My three children in 1968, alive in Israel, using the (German) play-pen of the youngest to create a prophecy for my later life...

There are uncountable Hebrew Children Songs,
see a scientifically ordered website.
I also discovered an on-line album
of songs taught to Jewish children in the US.
The fact, that part of the songs are "old",
i.e. created long before the Declaration
of the Jewish state in 1948,
and therefore not "fashionable"
makes them all the more precious to me,
and I hope, I can learn some of them
and teach them to Mika.

2007_09_20-ani omedet ba-ma'agal

yamina-smola

Mika, my tenth grandchild, now 22 months old,
has been listening to these songs,
ever since she was in her mother's womb.

This last week I got proof, that she truly grasps them.
I recorded one of the following songs - yamina-smola - on my cellphone
and let her hear it, when we were on one of our outings.
"Od pa'am!" she said, "Once more". She wanted to hear it 4 times.
Some of the songs she already starts to sing herself,
though the voice is still faint.

I want to complete this page with two German children songs
which became as popular in Hebrew
as they were in Germany, when I was a child.

Hänschen klein, ging allein,
in die weite Welt hinein,
Stock und Hut steht ihm gut
ist ganz wohlgemut.
Aber Mutter weinet sehr
