On my mother's funeral in the Templer cemetery in Jerusalem
I sang this with my sister from Germany and my son's guitar
tunes:
This psalm is traditionally sung on the Eve of Shabbat,
The tune I prefer, I learnt at the Taizé Community,
in 1976.
I adapted it to the original Hebrew words of Psalm 126.
4 stanzas and
sowing and reaping as the chorus.

1 A Song of Ascents.
When the LORD brought back those that returned to Zion, we were like unto them that dream.


2 Then was our mouth filled with laughter, and our tongue with singing;
then said they among the nations: 'The LORD hath done great things with these.'

Version of the Taizé Community in 1976

This song was a woundrous gift ,
that helped me to go on with my life,
which was so difficult because of the way
I understood, mis-understood, my vocation,
(see puzzle piece 1b: Driving backward, Retrieving Goodness 2007_11_22).
The song was put in perspective by an encounter with the German speaking brother Leo:
I: "You work all over the world,
could you please come to Israel and help me with Bir'am?"
Brother Leo, surprised:
"But we never go anywhere unless we are invited!"
That sentence caused an awakening in me.
Having experienced the community of the 70 monks,
and the fantasticly organized life in tents
of about four thousand young people,
and having learnt about the living - not "working" -
with people in slums all over the world,
I suddenly saw the depth of my slogan, a biblical verse:

Sow your seed in the morning,
and at evening let not your hands be idle,
for you do not know which will succeed,
whether this or that,
or whether both will do equally well
.

Ecclesiastes 11:6

 

The original text is sung to a traditional tune
(the letters YHWH are pronounced as "Adonai"=Lord)
The text ,
re-adapted to the original Hebrew
from the French song I learnt in Taizé in 1976,
exposes the phrase:

"Those who sow in tears, will reap in jubilation"
as a refrain
(the lettersYHWH I pronounce as "Ha-Shem" = the Name)

2010_03_13 - Mika's Heaven on Earth









Since August 1, 2009,
I employ song-page after song-page
for documenting and exploring
the evolution of Mika
my youngest grandchild,

whose assignment seems to be:
to demonstrate to humankind
by her own living and doing,
how to playfully create
from moment to moment

"zest-fully and full-filled"

On this Shabbat, March 13, 2010
- as during all the 3-4 days of my presence at Shoham this time -
Mika doesn't want to go out.
The "insect-experience" on Shabbat Febr 13 may still deter her!

But we enjoy a beautiful hour in the small garden around the flat.

I point out to her the yellow flowers, called "khamtzitzim" (one of the 900 kinds of "oxalis")
and show her, how Abba, when he was a child, used to suck the juice from the stalks



When I discovered one last little orange on the shrub,
Mika tried to reach it while standing on her red horse.

That's how I discovered, that a big screw was missing in the toy,
and that not only standing ,  but riding on it would be dangerous.
"You must tell Abba to either repair it or discard it", I warned her.
She said: "Let's write a letter to him, there on the head with gold!"



While we sat there, the little orange fell from the top right into my lap

 


Mika brings the repair-needing toy - with the golden instructions on its head - into Abba's "studio",
so nobody would forget and nobody would get hurt when attempting to hop on the damaged horse.



The last thing I do, before preparing for our guests, is to photograph our "tent"

The two items on the floor of "the tent",
have to do with the near Pesach feast,


The flat box was prepared for baby Moses,
which- alas!- had got lost from our drawer,
and which Imma was urged! to buy anew!!
See next time, how Efrat got a new tiny doll

In kindergarden,
where the story of Pesach is now being told extensively
Mika glued the "Cup of Elijah, the prophet"
on a black cardboard.
Since I didn't find this work creative,
I threw it into the bin under the computer-desk.

Mika discovered it there, angrily.
I advised her,
to at least draw something
on the empty backside.
Within half a minute she created this:
"a heart"
[with the usual "ponpon" hanging from it]
"with fireworks around it"

[When I came the next time, on March 11,
Mika no longer wanted to see this drawing,
and searched for a spot,
to which she could glue the original picture.

By chance, the image appears behind her tent,
which now had come to new honor in this flat]




I never knew the meaning of the "fifth cup", the goblet of Eliyahu, the prophet
