As the fruit of becoming whole = accepting all of myself, I desire:
to live and explore and evolve   L O V E   in my personal life
and to play my part in creating the conditions for Heaven-on-Earth
by radiating grate-full-ness, zest-full-ness and full-fill-ment
on the actors in my individual life-drama and on all human beings!

An ancient psalm was given to the nation!
A redeeming psalm also for the World!
Without leaves- there won't be grapes!

Preface for the German Reader


Nation and Human (i.e. Israel & the Individual)

Israel is a community soldered together by their common destiny,
their consciousness of their task in the world
and an orientation towards life unique to this people.
What is implied in the name "Israel",
in the poetic titles "Zion" and "Knesset-Israel",
or in the terms "People" and "Community",
means much more than a nation or a religion.
What this community needs to be particularly aware of,
is its dependency on the individual (yakhid).
This has an expression in the very grammar.
The verb which signifies Israel's doing and experiencing,
is always used in the plural.
Since mutual dependency and responsibility
are already petrified in the language,
the reader has sometimes to bear with this strange phrasing:
"All Israel are guarantors for each other".
The same is true for the construction
"the human and his other", "you and your other" (re'eka or zulatka).
The language guides into thinking.

Teaching and Tradition

The religious, juridical, ethical and philosophical orientation,
called "guidance" [torah],
guides the human to and on the way, which he must walk,
"so he will live" in this world and in this time.

Einige Menschen hatten einen entscheidenden Einfluss auf das Denken,
das in dieser Arbeit zum Ausdruck kommt.
Ich moechte die Gelegenheit nutzen, um ihnen zu danken.

Es war Dr. Reinhold Mayer, Lehrer an der Universitaet Tuebingen,
der die Schaetze des Judentums vor mir aufgeschlossen
und mich als erster gelehrt hat,
mir meiner Verantwortung gegenueber Israels Schicksal bewusst zu werden.

Von ihm lernte ich auch,
dass die Interpretation von Zeugnissen der Vergangenheit
die Beduerfnisse der Gegenwart in Betracht ziehen muss.


Es war Franz Rosenzweig,
welcher mich durch die Hinterlassenschaft seiner Briefe und Zeugnisse gelehrt hat,
die Scheidewaende zwischen den Menschen beiseitezuschieben
und jeden Menschen so zu sehen, wie er zu sein bestimmt ist.

Meine Interpretationsmethode der Bibel fusst auf der seinen.

Es war David Flusser, Lehrer an der Universitaet Jerusalem,
der mir half, eine neue Beziehung zu Jesus von Nazareth zu gewinnen
und Missverstaendnisse gegenueber seiner Persoenlichkeit und seiner Lehre aufzuklaeren.

Ich danke ihm auch fuer die Abende im Jahr 1961,
da er mir gewaehrte, an seinen Studien teilzunehmen,
ein Erlebnis, das Studenten unserer Tage nur selten zuteil wird.
