As to the first chapter of the first part (see digest)
I've always felt uneasy for its being the first.
There is logic in the order:
humankind - the community (Israel) - the individual.
The Bible itself does not start with Israel,
but with Creation, Earth and Wo/Man.
Identifying with the reader, though,
I recommend to start with the Community!
In any case, if you read it later or now or at all,
let's not forget to move Body!

 



Translation of the Hebrew entry,
which had not yet been sculpted so clearly,
when I edited the German book:

Consciousness is the first step to coping,
the precondition to choosing.
If it were not for their consciousness of mutual dependency
and mutual guarantorship between human beings,
Israel would not have continued to exist as a nation.

The systems of mutual dependency are arranged in three circles:
between a man and his fellow,
between the individual and his community
and between each human and all humankind.

Israel's Sages were so busy with the middle system
- the individual and his community
- that they usually were unaware of the fact,
that this system could not be cut off from the two other systems.
